I think their way of teaching you Kanji using these little stories with English keywords works quite good. I'm still on Level 1 (the first 3 are free), but after using WaniKani I don't want to go back to using anything else. However, this makes it better if you don't want to invest too much time - they will make sure that you review only what is most effective according to their calculations. The perhaps most debatable part is that WaniKani only lets you do reviews at the (allegedly) most effective times - you can't "binge" learn. Memrise also had mnemonics, but they were far less accessible and not remotely as easy to memorize as the ones on WaniKani. This helped me immensely with memorizing. Learn basic kanji through kanji words: GENKI Kanji Cards is a digital card app that helps users become able to recognize 317 basic kanji by studying more than 1,100 kanji words at their own pace This is the second official iPhone app to be released for GENKI: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese, a best-selling series of Japanese learning materials boasting more than 1.2 million copies sold. They also have very good mnemonics that tell you a little story with one or two English keywords that are used to construct the reading of the kanji. I'm a beginner and it teaches me radicals, which unlock kanjis using these radicals, which in turn unlock vocabulary using the kanji. I used to think Memrise or Anki is the way to go for Kanji, but WaniKani is leagues better for me. Second this, discovered WaniKani last week.
